Montgaillard: picturesque and floral village where pottery has been an important industry from the XVIth century to the beginning of XXth century.  The Percin de Montgaillard landlords used to live here between 1566 - 1708. Richelieu ordered the destruction of the castle in 1638.

Car park & start: church square of Montgaillard.

Go towards the left side of a big half-timbered house, go down the path just in front of you (follow the signs).  On your right you can see a dovecote in "Belair" site.  Go down the hill towards Camuzon stream, cross the ford and go towards D89 road (on your left).

Follow the road for 200 metres and then go up the hill on your right, towards "Vedel" site. Take the track on your right, leading to the shady Crests trail.  Dominant viewpoint over Marsac and its castle.  Follow the shady path for 1500 metres and then take the path to your right going through the wood (ancient Roman footpath).  Follow the D25 road for 300 metres and then turn left into the D89 road.

Follow this road for 500 metres, then turn right and go through the municipal wood.  Go past Camuzon ford, go up the hill towards Balignac. Once you get the road turn left to get to the village.  Follow the signs until you get to the charming XVIIth church of Balignac.  Go towards the centre of the village.  Pic-nic area on your left.  Turn right to take the road leading to Montgaillard.

Follow this road for 1 Km.  On your left, go through the little wood. At the exit, follow the road for 400 m until you get to Balatière farm.  Go down to Chêneraie lake (Oakwood lake).

Go round the lake and cross the stream to go up a mostly difficult hill.  Go through woods and agricultural fields until you get to the place called "Bourdettes".  Turn left to get to the centre of Montgaillard.
