History of Vigueron
The name derives from the Latin term “vicarius” (the man imparting justice in the name of the King).
The name of Vigueron (Castro Vicaro) was first recorded in a document of the 13th century. The lordship was in the hands of the Viscounts of Terride until the Revolution. The parish was first recorded in a Papal bull of 1317 creating the Diocese of Montauban.
The church, burnt during the Wars of Religion in 1581, was rebuilt with clay in the 17th century. In 1891 it was again entirely rebuilt using the plans of the Toulouse architect Bréfeil.
