History of Maumusson
The name derives from the Gallo-Roman name “Mamucius”.
Before French Revolution Maumusson territory was divided between three parishes and lordships: Maumusson, la Grue and Pomaret. Malecaze hamlet seems to be the location of Maumusson's first people; the first church was built here, and some houses were established in the surroundings.
Pomaret was first a monastic grange depending on Belleperche abbey; in 1281 this parish became a bastide due to a contract signed between the Abbot of Belleperche and the Viscount of Auvillar, but it had a short life.
This lordship was in the hands of the Preissac family in the 14th century; afterwards it was the property of the Grossolles and the Percin families.
In the 17th century 18 potters were listed; they were pecialised in the production of hand-painted crockery.
