History of Le Causé
The name derives from the Patois term "caouzenno", the limestone lump of earth over which the village is built.
In 1897 an early Gallo-Roman settlement was indicated by the discovery of an important treasure containing coins with Latin incriptions.
Le Causé was the headquarters of a lordship belonging to Hugues de Saboulies in the 13th century. In the 15th century it was the property of the Faudoas family, and in the 16th century of the Rochechouart family. In 1789 this lordship was in possession of the Countess of Beaumont.
The parish church was destroyed during the Wars of Religion; it was restored in the 17th century and completely rebuilt in the 20th.
