History of Lachapelle
The name derives from the chapel of the village.
The first lords of these lands were the Viscounts of Lomagne, but in the legend of the village the lands were first the property of l’Ordre du Temple and then of l’Ordre de Malte.
During the 15th century the inhabitants decided to establish their houses under the protection of the castle, which at that time was the headquarters of a lordship belonging first to Hélie de Talleyrand (13th), then to Bertrand de Goth (14th) and then to Antoine de Lanusse (15th). The Grossolles family acquired a part of these lands in 1502, remaining in their possession until 1730. In the 18th century Lachapelle had three lords; the last one’s family, Laclaverie, was one of the most important families of Lomagne.
Saint-Pierre church (15th century) used to be the chapel of the castle. Its interior decoration is remarkable and unique in Europe; it has been made in 1776 by Maraignon Champagne.
