History of Castéra-Bouzet

The name derives from the Latin term «castera» (roman site) and from Bouzet (castle owner’s name).

The Land Charter was signed the 2nd August 1300 by Barrau du Bouze.  This family was known in the area from the 13th century and its Land Charter is one of the few documents bearing witness to the history of Castéra and Bouzet.

This fortified village was created between the building of the first sanctuary and the first medieval tower, before 1300.  The present church dates from the 15th century.
