History of Belbèze
The name derives from the Latin terms "bellum videre", and from the Occitan terms "bel, bezer” (beautiful view).
The white marble sarcophages found in the ancient cemetery indicate very old human establisments (7th to 9th century). In 1188 the church was donated to Belleperche abbey by the Abbot of Saint-Théodard and it was built in the highest point of the present cemetery.
The land of Belbèze was sold in 1640 by Belleperche abbey to the Duthil family. Destroyed by the Religious wars, the present church was restored in 1650.
