History of Beaumont de Lomagne

The name derives from the Latin terms “bellus” (beautiful) and “mons” (hill).

The bastide of Beaumont de Lomagne was created between 1276 and 1279 after the contract signed by Granselve abbey and the King of France, Philippe III le Hardi, represented by Eustache de Beaumarchais.

In 1790 Beaumont was a part of the Haute Garonne department.  When Napoleon the 1st created the department of Tarn et Garonne in 1808, Beaumont de Lomagne was included in this area.
