History of Sérignac
The name derives from the Gallo-Roman name "Serenius".
A Gallo-Roman settlement is indicated by some important remains. In the place known as St Gervais, there were a church and a cemetery where some sarcophages have been found. Very close to this place there is a fountain whose waters are supposed to treat fevers.
A Land Charter dating from 1224 is one of the first charters signed in Lomagne. This fact indicates a very active population. Bessens, Argombat, Preissac and Cabirac lords signed this charter. In 1303 the lordship was acquired by l’Isle family, and later on by the Terride family.
The church was destroyed in 1560. Géraud de Lomagne, lord of Sérignac and member of the Terride family, was a celebrity of the Reformed church in Haute-Guyenne.
Throughout the 19th century Sérignac was a flourishing village. Its school was founded in 1830.
